‘Tell Me Lies’ stars tease “explosive” Season 3 finale: “It’s more shocking than any finale we’ve done before”
Knowing the emotional roller coaster that Tell Me Lies has taken fans on since it premiered back in 2022, the upcoming Season 3 finale essentially looms like a threat.
In Season 3’s penultimate episode, Meaghan Oppenheimer’s hit Hulu series featured a hopeful exchange between Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White), two Pippa (Sonia Mena) breakups, an unforgivable Evan (Branden Cook) betrayal, a concerning Lucy and Tegan (Bianca Nugara) convo, and a jaw-dropping Bree (Cat Missal) cliffhanger. So what drama, nightmares, and twists does Season 3, Episode 8 have in store?
The Tell Me Lies Season 3 finale, ominously titled “Are You Happy Now, That I’m on My Knees?” officially hits Hulu on Tuesday, February 17 at 12:00 a.m. ET. But to hold fans over, DECIDER asked the Tell Me Lies creator and cast what we can expect from the highly-anticipated episode.
“I think it’s more shocking than any finale we’ve done before is what I would say. And I’m aware that the audience of this show specifically expect a shocking finale,” Oppenheimer teased over Zoom. “We really we tried to deliver that, and I think there’s some surprises and some punches that they won’t see coming.”
When asked to share a quick Season 3 finale tease, here’s what the Tell Me Lies cast had to say:
“Chaos. Explosive chaos,” White told Decider. “It’s cakey. That could be taken a lot of different ways,” Van Patten added, prompting White to deliciously combine “cake” and “chaos” into a supertease: “It’s chakeos.”
“I think it’s more shocking than any finale we’ve done before is what I would say. And I’m aware that the audience of this show specifically expect a shocking finale.”

Alicia Crowder chose “messy” as the word to best represent the finale, while Mena simply screamed as a tease. (Accurate!) Season 3 star Costa D’Angelo warned fans that “explosions” are coming, saying, “If you know, you know. You’ll know what I mean.” And Missal also promised the evergreen Tell Me Lies special: “Chaos.”
“If you’re looking for chaos, if you’re looking for everything to rear its head and explode in a satisfying way, check out Episode 8,” Cook said. “There you go! I remember nothing else!” Spencer House playfully echoed.
For those who need a refresher, the official Season 3, Episode 8 synopsis is as follows: “A scandal erupts at Baird College. When shocking truths come to light, consequences follow for everyone.”
As noted in a previous piece, after Stephen gave Lucy the tape, she ran into Tegan and warned her to stay away from him. The only problem? She already delivered that warming the day prior and had no memory of the conversation. Lucy admitted that Stephen holding the tape over her made her feel like she was having “a never-ending psychotic break.” So clearly stress of the secrets, lies, and blackmail are physically manifesting themselves and taking a toll.
If Lucy forgot her conversation with Tegan, is there a chance she never even got the tape from him? Did he lie about making a copy? And could the tape be at the “scandal” teased in the description? We’ll have to wait and see! It’s also worth noting that Episode 7 ended with Bree seeing a photo of Evan and Lucy at the Hawaiian party together, putting things together, and taking Evan’s phone. So we’re also left to wonder what Bree will do next in 2009, and, of course, how things will turn out in 2015 now that Stephen knows about Bree and Wrigley’s feelings.
“Obviously, Stephen’s not going to let that bomb die or explode underground,” Oppenheimer warned of the 2015 wedding reception revelation. “He’s going to try to create as much damage as possible with that lie, or with that [Bree and Wrigley] reveal.”
Buckle up, Tell Me Lies fans. It sounds like we’ve got one hell of a finale ahead. Stay tuned for more of Decider’s in-depth Season 3 coverage and read on to learn how to watch Episode 8 ASAP.
