Woman fosters rescue dog—what he does on day 1 shows her it’s not temporary

A dog who was found fighting for his life after being dumped in the trash on a freezing night fell in love with his foster mom—what he did to convince her to adopt him has melted hearts on social media.

A viral Facebook post shared February 7 by the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, which helped save the dog’s life, explained that, on December 15, a good Samaritan was taking her trash out when she saw the pup lying on the ground alone.

“He was nearly frozen and severely emaciated. She and her brother gathered him up in a blanket and rushed him here for emergency care. He had no temperature and needed supportive care,” the caption says.

“He made it that first crucial night, and veryyyyy slowly began to gain strength and an appetite. Soon, he was able to stand on his own and after a couple of weeks, he was going for short walks. Then he was medically cleared for a foster home, where he would continue gaining weight.”

Talking to the shelter, the pup’s now-owner said that fostering Crème Brûlée was one of the most-fulfilling experiences of her life.

The owner added: “Watching where he started and seeing how far he has come, simply with love, a safe place to sleep, and a little food, has been incredible. He went from tired and unsure to healthy, gentle, and now walks with such confidence.

“After losing my dog in April 2025, I wasn’t sure my heart was ready again, but Crème Brûlée reminded me how incredibly resilient dogs are, and how all they ever want is love and safety.”

On the first day in his foster home, Crème Brûlée knew what he wanted, and didn’t hesitate to take it. When his mom came back home from work, he climbed to the highest point of the couch just to reach her, he then sat on her like he never wanted to let go.

“In that moment, I truly believed he thought I might not come back,” the owner said. “The relief and trust in his eyes showed me how much he needed someone who would always return. That was when I knew my heart had chosen him. He was never meant to be temporary. He is home.”

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 9,800 likes and 757 comments on the platform.

One user, Joanne Walters, commented: “I’m not crying. No I am not. I am definitely NOT. Oh Hell, yes I am LOL [laugh out loud].”

Barb Thompson wrote: “Bless all who rescued him who saved him and bless you for adopting him.”

Martha Nolle Williams added: “His eyes are so full of luv and appreciation!”
