Britney Spears Sells Entire Music Catalog To Primary Wave
Britney Spears has sold the rights to her entire music catalog to Primary Wave.
Songs like “… Baby One More Time,” “Sometimes,” “Oops! … I Did It Again,” “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” “Lucky,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” among many other hits, will not be owned by Primary Wave, according to Rolling Stone and multiple outlets.
The independent publisher is home to artists like Bob Marley, Stevie Nicks, Smokey Robinson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Olivia Newton-John, Ray Charles, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Paul Anka, Boy George, Air Supply, Noel Hogan (Cranberries), Dan Wilson, KT Tunstall, Patrick Leonard, Sturken & Rogers, and many more.
The Britney Spears deal was reportedly signed on December 30, according to TMZ, which first reported the news. Although the amount Primary Wave paid for Spears’ music catalog is unknown, sources told the publication it was around the same as the $200M deal Justin Bieber secured when he sold his music to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023.
Other songs included in the deal are “Circus,” “If U Seek Amy,” “Break The Ice,” “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know,” “Everytime,” “Gimme More,” “Hold It Against Me,” “I Wanna Go,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” “My Prerogative,” “Overprotected,” “Piece of Me,” “Stronger,” “Till The World Ends,” “Toxic” and “Womanizer.”
Spears joins a group of consolidated artists who have sold their music catalogs in recent years like Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, KISS, Neil Young, and more.
Primary Wave also has a talent management division that represents artists such as Melissa Etheridge, Cypress Hill, Fantasia, Plain White T’s, Skid Row, and Extreme, among others.
