‘Junk’ logic

I chuckle when critics of the Chinese EV deal say both that they are junk cars, and also that they are going to destroy the Canadian car industry. If the Canadian car industry is so weak it can be destroyed by a couple thousand ‘junk’ Chinese electric vehicles, then I’d say it deserves to die. That’s just the free market: if you don’t adapt to the desires of your customers, then you deserve to go out of business. Maybe the Canadian car industry should try making an affordable model?

‘Cancelling’ out of control

Paul Brandt was recently cancelled from speaking at an ATA (Alberta Teachers Association) event for not taking a stand one way or another against Alberta separation. I don’t listen to Brandt’s music, but I respect him for just singing music and not wading into politics. After all, he is a singer, not a politician or political commentator. Sadly, he was cancelled anyway. He might as well have taken a political stand one way or another, thus alienating a certain number of his fans who do not share his political beliefs. He tried to avoid this, and was cancelled anyhow. A no-win situation for Brandt. This insane cancel culture needs to stop. Let’s get back to musicians and athletes just doing what made them famous. If you became famous by doing some special skill, I and the vast majority of people didn’t make you famous for your political stands or commentary. We don’t care! Keep your feelings private! To the ATA, it appears you have just become part of the keyboard warriors who like to cancel anyone who doesn’t share your opinions, thereby stunting any rational debate.

Unknowing voters

Normally Canadian prime ministers are elected after having led a national party and giving Canadians a chance to see what they are all about. So why would we suddenly elect a virtual unknown Liberal back-room adviser most of us never heard about? Carney never bothered to do the work of endearing himself to Canadians before becoming the leader. But it seems Liberal voters will accept anyone under their brand even if it seems to most of us that Carney might as well be from Mars.

Seahawks rule

Congratulations to the Super Bowl champions, Seattle Seahawks! This defence was special. MVP Kenneth Walker was dominant. And Sam Darnold gave us one of the best comeback stories in a long time. Enjoy the celebration.
