Donald Trump Says “Progress Has Been Made” In Nancy Guthrie Case After FBI Involvement

Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that he believes that “progress has been made” in the Nancy Guthrie case after the FBI got involved.

The case is being led by the Pima County Sheriff, which has jurisdiction over the Tucson area neighborhood where Guthrie, the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, lives.

Per a poll report, the president was asked why the FBI had not taken over the case.

“It was a local case originally, and they didn’t want to let go of it, which is fine–it’s up to them; it’s really up to the community–but ultimately, when the FBI got involved, I think, you know, progress has been made,” Trump said.

Trump also was asked whether a cartel or foreign country may have been involved in the suspected kidnapping.

“Somebody either knew what they were doing very well, or they were rank amateurs, either way, it’s not a good situation,” Trump said.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31, when she was dropped off her home. She was reported missing around noon the next day.

Authorities believe that she was abducted, and have been examining suspected ransom notes sent to TMZ and two local news outlets. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings also have recorded videos calling for their mother’s release.

This week, the FBI released footage from Nancy Guthrie’s outdoor camera, showing an armed masked person.

On Thursday, the FBI released new details of the suspect, saying that the person “is described as a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.” They also increased a reward for clues from $50,000 to $100,000.
