How Ganni and Lululemon’s 22-Piece Collection Turns 1980s Dance Films Into Activewear

On 15 October 2026, lululemon and the Copenhagen label GANNI released a 22-piece collection built around dance. The range pairs lululemon’s technical activewear with GANNI’s print and colour work, and it is supported by a campaign titled Joy Is a Power Move.

The collaboration puts a fashion label’s print and colour onto a performance brand’s fabrics, with 1980s dance films as the starting point. Retail Times describes the partnership as combining lululemon’s technical innovation with GANNI’s playful design. This article looks at how the campaign was built, what the pieces include, who appears in the film, and what the partnership shows about how activewear and fashion brands work together.

A Dance-Studio Film Built on 1980s References

The campaign was filmed in a dance studio. Retail Gazette reports that it draws on the look of 1980s dance films and shows the two stars performing together. Retail Times describes the short film as one that blurs rehearsal and performance, mixing the emotional energy of the 1980s with a contemporary feel. The Cool Hour gives its theme as movement and self-expression.

The starting point came from the design side. Retail Gazette quotes GANNI creative director Ditte Reffstrup saying that 1980s dance movies have been part of her life since childhood, which made them a natural starting point. Retail Times reports that she has long been drawn to the energy of those films.

RetailBoss attributes to Jonathan Cheung, lululemon’s global creative director, the account that the design process began with dance as Reffstrup’s own movement practice. The Zoe Report gives the same account. RetailBoss also says Reffstrup cited 1980s dance films as an influence on the collection’s palette and details. The Zoe Report names Footloose, Flashdance and Fame among those films.

Launch Details
The 22-piece Ganni x lululemon collection launched on 15 October 2026 on lululemon.com and GANNI.com and in select stores across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, according to Retail Times.

Casting Jennifer Beals and METTE

Retail Gazette describes Jennifer Beals as the Flashdance actor who fronts the campaign, and quotes her as a longtime customer of both brands. In a statement quoted by Retail Times, she describes herself as a longtime lululemon and GANNI customer and says she is thrilled to take part.

METTE is a singer and dancer. Retail Times quotes her saying that lululemon has been part of her life since dance school. Retail Gazette describes her as a singer and dancer.

Retail Gazette reports that the two perform together in the film, and The Cool Hour lists both as fronting the campaign. The Zoe Report describes the short film as showing the pieces in motion.

Inside the 22 Pieces

The collection spans womenswear, accessories and footwear. Retail Gazette and Retail Times both list those categories. The range uses lululemon’s Nulu and Softstreme fabrics, which Retail Times describes as lululemon’s proprietary fabrics.

The range includes a reworked Define Jacket, which Retail Times says was reinterpreted through GANNI’s design lens. The Zoe Report says the collection draws on lululemon’s existing product archetypes, including the Define Jacket and the Mid-Rise Tight, reimagined with GANNI’s prints and trims.

Dance-inspired pieces include leg warmers, boleros and headbands. Good Morning America lists jackets, pants, pullovers, tanks, bodysuits, grip socks and ruffled headbands among the categories, while The Zoe Report lists tracksuits, mesh tops and mid-rise tights.

GANNI’s signatures run through the set: leopard print, ruffle trims and bold colour pairings. RetailBoss describes these appearing on lululemon performance styles. The Cool Hour describes the aim as encouraging shoppers to mix print, colour and extra layers rather than wearing matching basics.

Jonathan Cheung says what he likes about the collection is its use of lululemon’s technical materials alongside the GANNI style, according to Retail Times.

Prices Reported So Far

The Zoe Report and Good Morning America both list prices in dollars. Both give $180 for the Define Ruffle-Trim Jacket and $120 for the Jacquard Mesh Tank Top.

The figures for two textured pieces differ. The Zoe Report lists the Ruffle-Trim Textured Jacket at $250 and the Ruffle-Trim Textured Mid-Rise Pant at $230. Good Morning America gives $240 and $220 for the same names. The sources do not explain the gap.

Good Morning America also lists a Brushed Softstreme Barrel-Leg Pant at $200, a Brushed Softstreme Slouchy Pullover at $220 and a Jacquard Mesh Half-Sleeve Bodysuit at $140. The Zoe Report lists a Merino Wool-Blend Bolero at $100.

Good Morning America also mentions a leopard ruffle-trim jacket, a matching tight, and grip socks and ruffled headbands, without giving prices for them. Neither source states the market in which the prices apply.

The collaboration puts a fashion label’s print and colour onto a performance brand’s fabrics, with 1980s dance films as the starting point.

Launch Dates and Where to Buy

The collection launched worldwide on 15 October 2026. Retail Times and Retail Gazette both say it is sold through both brands’ websites and in select stores across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Retail Times names lululemon.com and GANNI.com.

Good Morning America says the collaboration was announced the week before its 15 October report, and that styles were already selling quickly by the time of publication. The Zoe Report says the collection is sold online and in select retail stores, without naming regions.

Coverage began before the launch. Retail Times, The Zoe Report and The Cool Hour published on 8 October, Retail Gazette on 9 October and RetailBoss on 10 October. Each names 15 October as the launch date. The brands’ own announcement date has not been confirmed.

What the Partnership Shows About Activewear Collaborations

The collaboration divides the work between two brands. lululemon supplies its fabrics and the Define Jacket, which GANNI reinterprets. GANNI supplies print, trim and colour. The Cool Hour describes GANNI as a Copenhagen label known for bold prints, statement knits and directional denim, and lululemon as founded in Vancouver in 1998.

Retail Times describes the collaboration as inspired by a shared belief in the joy of movement, a theme Good Morning America attributes to the press release.

The campaign uses a short film and two performers to frame the launch. The product list runs from jackets and boleros to footwear and accessories. The Zoe Report also offers styling suggestions, including pairing a mesh top with a mini skirt and heels.

Sales run through both brands’ websites and through selected stores, so the collection is sold in more than one channel.
