Raiders reportedly moving on from Pete Carroll, Brady to help search
The Las Vegas Raiders will wrap up a disappointing season of football on Sunday, as they host the Kansas City Chiefs in a game likely to be more about the story of Travis Kelce’s retirement than the Raiders.
However, news has surfaced on Saturday that the team is looking to move on from having Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll at the helm. The team is 2-14 heading into their season finale and looking to rebuild.
While the team is a strong contender for the top pick in the NFL Draft and could add a recent Heisman-winning quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, Pro Bowl defender Maxx Crosby is frustrated with the team and could be on the way out.
Along with that, the reports on Carroll suggest the longtime coach will either retire after the season ends or the Raiders will fire him from the coaching job.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, after Carroll’s “one-and-done” season as coach, the team will “cast a wide net” in its search for his replacement. Along with that, seven-time Super Bowl winner and minority owner Tom Brady is expected to be involved in the search.
Carroll’s career included 14 seasons coaching the Seahawks, including a Super Bowl win in 2013 and a Super Bowl appearance the following year. In addition to Seattle and Las Vegas, he also coached the New York Jets for one season and the New England Patriots for three, achieving an overall record of 172-130.
The 74-year-old coach experienced his worst record ever at the helm of the Raiders, despite his former Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Geno Smith, also joining the team. In addition, it was a drop from the team’s previous season’s record of 4-13.
Raiders owner Mark Davis will obviously decide on Carroll’s situation if the coach doesn’t announce his retirement first, but it’s expected that a team rebuild is on the way. According to an NFL report, Brady’s friendship with general manager John Spytek means that the Fox Sports commentator and former quarterback should play a key role in advising Davis on the next coach.
Most likely, they’ll need a coach who fits the new direction the team is taking. With the potential to add a franchise-caliber quarterback in Mendoza, along with the possibility of adding additional new roster pieces if they trade Crosby, Las Vegas could be on its way towards a brighter future.
The domino effect of big Raiders news likely kicks off with a loss to Kansas City on Sunday, as they’ll officially secure the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
