Austin semiconductor operation receives $23M grant

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Silicon Labs, an Austin-based semiconductor manufacturing company, recently received a Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund grant of $23,250,000.
The grant is for the company’s new research and development operation, which is expected to create more than $80 million in capital investment, according to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.
Abbott said Silicon Labs’ investment would “further cement Texas’ position as a trailblazer in technological advancement and keep Texas at the epicenter of the semiconductor industry.”
The governor’s office said the company’s new operations would include:
- investment in cutting-edge semiconductor design and testing equipment
- construction of a research lab
- development of a platform for integrating artificial intelligence
- machine learning accelerators
“This state-of-the-art laboratory is a strategic investment in the future of innovation in Texas,” the governor’s office said.
