Woman accidentally takes pocket photo—internet shocked by what’s captured
If your phone accidentally took a photo while in your pocket, you’d probably expect the result to be nothing but darkness or the pattern of the fabric.
But one viral Reddit post is proving otherwise—racking up 50,000 upvotes since it was posted on January 27.
The photo shared by u/No_Lynx3928 reveals a strangely beautiful, almost cosmic-looking image. It shows blue streaks and glowing white lines captured on a woman’s iPhone 16.
The poster wrote: “[My] wife took this photo in her pocket accidentally. How is this possible[?]”
According to a survey by OnePoll on behalf of photo book brand Mixbook, the average American has nearly 3,000 images—2,795 to be exact—saved in their camera roll. Most are snapshots of loved ones, pets and everyday moments, but unsurprisingly, accidental pocket photos didn’t make the list.
The mysterious image quickly sparked theories, jokes, and even a crash course in physics.
“Is it a keychain??” one asked. “You can clearly see a movement pattern—do we get any hints on what was in her pocket at the time?”
The original poster clarified: “Just the phone but the room had a bed and a TV and a dresser.”
Another joked: “I’m convinced men historically kept women from having pockets because they knew we’d be too powerful if we could carry our own stuff and dimensional shifting space.”
A third added: “Finally, a scientific explanation for why women’s pockets are forbidden.”
And a fourth simply summed it up: “The pocket dimension”
So…Did She Accidentally Photograph Another Dimension?
While the photo looks like a glitch in reality, the actual science behind “dimensions” is far less sci‑fi.
Phys.org explains dimensions are just the ways we describe where something is and how it exists in the universe.
We easily understand the first three because we use them constantly: length, width and depth. Scientists believe there may be more hidden dimensions that help explain how the universe works.
Here’s the simple breakdown:
- 1st dimension – length.
- 2nd dimension – height.
- 3rd dimension – depth.
- 4th dimension – time.
- 5th dimension – alternative versions of our world.
- 6th dimension – all possible outcomes from the same starting point.
- 7th dimension – universes with completely different beginnings.
- 8th dimension – all possible histories of those different worlds.
- 9th dimension – universes with different laws of physics.
- 10th dimension – every possible reality combined.
Of course, the photo is far more likely to be due to reflections, motion blur or the camera interacting with fabric and light—not a glimpse into the multiverse.
But Reddit isn’t about taking things too seriously, and for most commenters, the fun was in imagining the possibilities.
